HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Carrick Utd      0
St John Bosco 1

At 2.30pm on 26 th of February 2007 the most significant game in St. John Bosco F.C. s history to date kicked off in a packed Tom Drohan park in Waterford . It was the quarter final of the FAI junior cup Carrick Utd, 5/2 second favorites to win the cup outright against St. John Bosco the 33/1 underdogs.

The game which was plagued by the blustery weather conditions throughout was a very open game for the first 30 minutes with both sides having their opportunities, the best of this period going to Carrick and if not for the agility of St John Bosco defender Daniel Purdy who's diving header kept the scores level. Carrick used this opportunity as a spring board and reduced St John Bosco to counter attacks for the rest of the half.

The second half began with St John Bosco playing against a dominant breeze and being put under some severe pressure in the opening minutes but all 11 St John Bosco players led by the captain and man of the match Robert Costello quelled the attacks and began to turn Carrick attacks into Bosco attacks, and on the hour mark St John Bosco were rewarded with their goal which was met with overwhelming and emotional celebration from the players and the encouraging and vocal traveling support.

Carrick tried to get their equalizer for the rest of the match but the Bosco defense stood strong and in the closing minutes the carrick players seemed emotionally and physically drained as the Bosco continued to break down their attacks and pass the ball around confidently.

The final whistle was greeted by jubilant celebration as this historical game for St John Bosco had ended in victory and secured themselves a place in the draw for the first round of the FAI Senior Cup 2007 / 08.

Congratulations to all involved in yesterdays game and it's preparation and to all who traveled and gave their valuable support to the team and the club.
