In the beginning.........................

Under the chairmanship of Joe Lynam the Bosco years began in fine style.

In 1957 Paddy McNally had an under 17 team that came from St. Finbarr's.

In their first and only season with the Bosco according to Paddy they won the treble including the under 17 league. It is not surprising considering they had the likes of Eric Barber and Tony Dunne in the side. Both became full internationals and indeed Tony played in the Man. Utd. team that won the European Cup in 1968.

There would be many more honours and indeed trebles for the club over the next 40 years.

Clip from Golden Jubilee Parish Magazine

"In soccer, our club teams, then playing under their traditional name "St. Finbarr's", won the under 17 League and Cup and our other four teams did really well in their own competitions. One of our boys gained a cap against England as a Schoolboy International. During the past summer our Soccer Section organised and successfully completed a "seven-a-side competition for two different age groups of boys in the open space at Brickfields. Since last season, "St. Finbarr's" merged with the club and all our boys of the soccer section now play under the title "St. John Bosco", may this name bring them success, not only on the playing field, but throughout life."
